Melissa's New Thesis Statement

According to Susan Sontag in Regarding the pain of others, "American prefer to picture that evil was there and from which the United States - a unique nation, one without any certifiably wicked leaders throughout its entire history - is exempt." The Americans like to believe that this country is better and could not have problems thus finding someone else or reason than the actual reason to blame for any tragic event. For example, the Virginia Tech shooting. After the shooter was identified as Cho Seung-Hui, Cho's family migrated from South Korea when he was 8 years old, the New York Times and The New York Post, kept referring to him as Cho, the South Korean as if the fact that he was South Korean influenced what he had done or changed what happen.

Colton Heller's Improved Thesis

There are many American tragedies that happen on unfortunate accounts, and people seem to turn them into government conspiracies. Disasters that result in causalities and heartache, are then blamed on the United States government. Are these all coincidences, or are they really government intentions.

According to Guardian, there were hierachy among students in U.S high schools. Even at schools located in small and calm town like littleton exists hierachy. Both of gunmen, klebold and Harris, revealed their anger and hatred ,caused by being treated badly and looked down on by classmates on their diary. Whether this anger was approprite or not, it proved that wrong relationship like hierachy between students can affect people to commit a irregistible crime.
Therefore, I want to point out the problems which make people neglet the hierachy exist and want to write how U.S schools should be for students who are minority and have difficulties following class to find their goals in their school lifes.

Jessica's New Improved Thesis

Developed countries such as the U.S. holds a position for a much needed added support for under-developed nations to keep them on track in today's technology world and to prevent the unnecessary loss of lives. Sources of media shed light on this issue as under-established countries are left vulernable to nature's fury that comes in the form of natural diasters, an example being, The New York Times, which states "A tsunami warning system that could have saved thousands of lives in Southeast Asia is being encouraged by the United Nations. The technology to detect earthquakes under the sea and predict their consequences already exists in the Pacific and must now be extended to the Indian Ocean." In my view, who can be held accountable for such situations except well-established countries themselves. Progressed countries don't provide enough support as they should as funding is not all that matters. I believe that different sources of media encourage important matters to be handled that forces countires to help and respond to the criticisms they face.

Insia Saleh---New Improved Thesis

The media, facing fierce competitions in their own world, always reports incidents dramatically and sometimes even in sleazier way to attract the viewer ship but gives little thought to the ramifications and consequences behind an eye-catching coverage of the story. The way of their reporting the facts is as such that people get a false impression for the sake of a good story, for instance, the New York Times reported that the South Korean movie "Old Boy" may have inspired the Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-hui to commit the shooting rampage. It is not for nothing that they are often held in a similar level of regard, like politicians, in blaming other kinds of media (violent movies, video games and music). After all they always fall back on the mantle of public interest in order to get good ratings and to get rich.

Magdalena's improved thesis statement.

Concentration camps which were in Syberia aren;t known because of many reasons . First of all Russia is a very poor country. The villages over there are dying out. I have a Polish channel called TVN. In the previous week or so they were picking up a president of Russia. The Russian people were speaking up. In one of the Russian villages there was one habitant left because everyone else in the village died out out of hunger, cold and many other things. The store is coming up to the woman once a week . tere are many more villages like that in Russia. it could be one of the many reasons why people dont know about concentrations in Russia. It is all about the money because the country will not be able to pay for the tortures to the families of the victims . poor countries are just ignored and unknown.Foreigners are ignorant to Polish history and polish people who also were the victims of those camps. There were other Europeans in those camps . In the history there are many complications. In World War 2 there were people who were trying to protect the Jewish people in their houses, barns anywhere. Nobody talks about those brave wonderfull people who risked their famieles for a person they didn't know. When Gestapo knocked at the door they kiiled all the famili members and the Jewish person they were hiding.
Also there are arguments which country was the most loyal to Jewish people during their suffering. people make lies also about this.

Rena Adler- Thesis Statement

Following an event, different newspapers and forms of media elect to convey or omit certain facts or details so as to effectively cater to the diverse needs and desires of their respective readers. For instance, following the tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis , Minnesota, The Guardian, a British newpaper, overtly states problems found in American infrastructure, “77,000 Bridges in Need of Urgent Repair”. Conversely, American newspapers such as The New York Times and New York Post work to tone down the severity of the matter, “States Across the Country Race to Inspect Bridges”.

Nikita's New improved thesis

Most media representatives, who suppose to signify the common people, present that proper cares and help was given to the victims of disasters; however, these media companies forget to demonstrate the truth. For example the 2004 tsunami of Southeast Asia, the media showed that people were offered aid; nevertheless many people still are struggling to rebuild their ruin homes and lives.

NEW THESIS-Tommyy

In our society, the media is the number one source of information for most people. It provides us with all the information we want, and information we need to know about anything. One major topic that is discussed is the “War on Drugs”. This war has been ongoing since President Nixon initiated it in 1968, because our soldiers were coming home from the Vietnamese War addicted to heroin and other drugs. Even though there are many drug laws in place right now, they are very inefficient. On paper the drug laws seem very reasonable, but in a broader sense are necessarily unfair. Many people are affected due to these laws inefficiency. There have been many suggestions of solution to the problems that are caused by the drug laws. In this paper I will provide information about what the drug laws currently are, who is being affected by them, what the actual crimes and punishments are, and what possible solutions to these problems have been suggested.
While middle class feminists regard the oppression of women as an inherent biological trait of men, Marxism explains that the root of women's oppression lies not in biology, but in social conditions. Women constitute half the human race, and have faced discrimination and degradation in many areas of life. The oppression of women in the third world has reached such high levels. It is accompanied by child prostitution, bonded-labour and slavery. Recently, an Iranian Islamic court found a woman guilty of adultery. For this heinous crime, she was sentenced to death by stoning. Here, in its most cruel and brutal form, is reflected the worse features of class society. In the 'civilised' west, working class women are treated as second-class citizens, many of who are forced into the menial jobs on poor wages. Despite equal pay legislation, employers still continue to discriminate against women in terms of pay and conditions. These social constraints which women face are seen throughout the world, not only with discrimination of pay but with a double standard in everyday life. The debate of the double standard is continuously argued by men who claim it doesn't exist.

Last chance, then, to create a thesis or to at least give a good sense of what you plan to do. For Wednesday post your final version here (repost it if you feel you've already got your final version on here already) and continue to move along the lines we discussed today. In addition, be sure to have read the O'Brien, so we can discuss the three remaining stories on Wednesday.

Arielle's New Thesis

Bhutto’s assassination can be directly related to John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Americans could have understood Bhutto’s assassination more if the newspapers had reminded the readers of the reaction to JFK’s assassination. Both reactions prove that political martyrs are considered courageous, even if they might not have been well-liked during their presidencies. Bhutto and JFK are given respect and honor for dying for their respective countries.

Insia Saleh---Thesis 2

Excessive media coverage surrounding violent incidents is a factor in promoting more of them, as some people get ideas that they can commit such crimes and second, covering the same story over and over again increases the chances that such incidents will occur. Thus, media have an influence in just the way they report the stories.

Andrea Varnava-1975 Vietnam

Vietnam 1975:

A few things happen during the Vietnam War in 1975. Vietnam’s president Thieu resigns during “a bitter and tearful 90 minute rambling TV speech to the people of South Vietnam. Thieu reads from the letter sent by Nixon in 1972 pledging "severe retaliatory action" if South Vietnam was threatened. Thieu condemns the Paris Peace Accords, Henry Kissinger and the U.S. "The United States has not respected its promises. It is inhumane. It is untrustworthy. It is irresponsible." He is then ushered into exile in Taiwan, aided by the CIA.” Hue then falls to communists and communists take aim at Saigon. Since “US President Gerald Ford anticipated the fall of Saigon to Communist forces, he announces in New Orleans that as far as the US is concerned, the Vietnam War is "finished." And then on April 30, 1975 the last Americans left Vietnam and the war was finally over.

Nikita's New Thesis

The 2004 tsunami claimed many lives; the response to tsunami shouldn't be measured by the data indicating the billions dollar given in donation; however, we should consider generous donations. Many people are greatly in need and they haven't received any kind of aid to help rebuild their destroy life.

Another new thesis statement Elizabeth John

As the coverage on the Assasination of Benazir Bhutto progressed there was numerous amounts of evidence revealed pointing to the governments involvement in this tradgic crime, including President Musharraf immediately cleaning up the scene, and President Musharraf denying Scotland Yards access to question political officials, which leads to the event that dictator governments should be abolished due to the unfair politics to its citizens and the truth.

New thesis.
According to Guardian, there's hierarchy in U.S schools and Columbine school accident proved that school should be a place where even minorities and students who have difficultis catching up class can be motivated to have goals in their school lifes.

Jessica- Thesis Statement

According to the New York Times, "A tsunami warning system that could have saved thousands of lives in Southeast Asia is being encouraged by the United Nations. The technology to detect earthquakes under the sea and predict their consequences already exists in the Pacific and must now be extended to the Indian Ocean." This reaility shows us the fact that with booming technology, under-established countries should also be introduced with safety measures by being provided and equipped with warning systems and before-hand alerts instead of the lack of preparations which results in the loss of lives.

Golda Markowitz- Thesis Statement

Public responses to tragic events often correlate with the magnitude of the attention they receive in the media, which in turn is greatly influenced by the socio-economic classes of the victims of the tragedy.
