Many stories are produced daily and spread through the general public. These stories are reported by several different sources such as newspapers, television news crews, and radios. Most stories don't capture people's undivided attentions because we think of it as just another story.
However, One major news story that captured my interest is a recent story about the deaths of two young people who died due to a sickness called meningitis. One male at the age of 17, and a female at the age of 27. I learned of this story while at work, It was on the cover of "NewsDay". It stood out greatly because I recognized the young female on the cover. She was my high school guidance counselor, Ms. Burke. She helped motivate students and always was there to listen even if it meant going out of her way to make time. She was a great guidance counselor. She was apart of the faculty at St. Francis Preparatory School in fresh meadows.
The article was two pages long and very sad. It described what the two young victims went through, and it also had comments from friends and students of the two victims. One interesting thing about the article was the fact that these two young people both died due to the same illness on the same day. And according to the article was very rare. The article also had percentages and statistics of people dying and surviving the disease of meningitis. If a person has survived the disease it stated that very extreme disabilities came due to it. It also gave description of the the disease and what the symptoms are.
This news story was very sad because both victims were taken sooner then expected. Knowing one of the victims made the story very realistic to me, and made me realize how fragile life really is.

I was unaware of what meningitis was until it was stated that students entering Queens College should (I cannot remeber if it was required or optional)be vaccinated for meningitis. I wanted to know what is about and did alittle reseach, this illness can be fatal and it have common symptoms that one may not take too seriously.
It is indeed a sad story. My sympathy to their family and friends.
