in class writing assignment

The first news story that comes to mind is probably the recent death of Australian actor Heath Ledger. This story seems to be the biggest news story circulating in the papers and airing on the television, with the exception being the 2008 presidential election. Heath Ledger was a famous Australian born actor who was living in New York City that died last week on an overdoes of the sleeping pill Ambien.
I first heard about this story while browsing through the television channels and I saw this story on the news. There was a picture of Ledger in the corner wit the years of the duration of his short life.
This is the first story that comes to mind with me because it is such a tragic story that I can't help but think about. It appears on the surface that Ledger had it all, he was young, talented, famous, and women seemed to be attracted to him. He had a young daughter who he loved and all the money one could possibly need. Who would think he would need drugs to make him happy? It just goes to show how all those material possessions and fame do not equal happiness.
Another reason I can't help but have this story be the first that comes to mind is that the story is everywhere. I can't watch any news station or read any newspaper without seeing at least one article or news segment covering this story. Even the America Online sign on screen has links that cover this story. It's impossible to escape hearing about this story.
The death upsets me because I enjoyed watching his acting and his movies. His movies and acting skills were very enjoyable and his talent is clearly noticeable. This story also upsets me because I know people who have taken Ambien, both recreationally and for medicinal reasons as well. Therefore I hope people will get something out of this tragedy and learn from Ledger's mistake.
