Gordon Mui – In class writing assignment #1

The first event that comes to mind that I saw on the media would be 9/11. At that time I was in 7th grade in history class. I remember all the teachers leaving class for about 15 minutes and meeting in the hallway discussing something important. All the students were just celebrating about the teachers leaving the room without knowing the tragedy that happened. The students were not informed about what happened that morning on 9/11 but we were told that school was closed the next day. Again, all the students were celebrating about school being closed. On that day, I didn’t know what happened until I walked home. When I got home every channel on T.V. was discussing about the tragic incident. When I finished watching the news I realized that both my parents worked in the city. Consequently, I was very worried about my family members as well because they all worked in the city as well. I called my family members and made sure that they were all fine and there wasn’t anything wrong with them. Later that night, my parents came home and I was extremely happy that I got the chance to see my parents. Because of work, I hardly got the chance to see them but the incident of 9/11 brought my parents home that night early. My parents usually worked from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Because of that I never got to see them because of my school schedule. Furthermore, when my parents came home, they were telling me and my brother what occurred in the morning. They were telling us that they say the second plane impact the World Trade Center. We were so amazed of what they say and that they didn’t get injured. In addition, we were also relieved that nothing happened to our parents.
The next day, I woke up to my father watching the news. He was watching channel five and it showed what happened the day before. At that time I was glad I had to chance to eat breakfast with my parents. It was a rare moment that I had the chance to eat breakfast and spend time with both my parents. Usually I would just go home from school myself and cook for myself and finish my work and than go to sleep. But because of 9/11, it brought my family back together for just one day. Even though 9/11 was a tragic day and left many dead or injured it brought my family back together and I will never forget that day.
Another reason why I will never forget 9/11 is because of the face that America is one of the most powerful military and economic forces and yet it was so easy for terrorists to destroy one of our most important buildings. During that age, I didn’t notice the importance of 9/11 until I grew up a little more. While I was growing up I realized the significance of the World Trade Center and the moment it was destroyed.
To conclude, I remember 9/11 mostly because it was one of the few times that I spent with my parents. Still, my parents are still working everyday but since I am older now, I get to stay up later and see them from time to time. I value these moments substantially. In addition, I also remember 9/11 because we are one of the most powerful forces in the world and it was easy for outside forces to destroy one of our important buildings.

I am glad to know that the tragedy gave you the valuable time when you can meet your parents and spend with them. IN fact, I didn't know about America well. I just knew America is strongest nation in the world before this happened. After hearing some people,s beautiful sacrefices by which could block another tragidy, I realized many beaftiful people live in America. Then, although this brought sorrow to many Americans , it also made most people realized valuable things like you.
